UMCS Student Mariem Represents Poland in Smart Agriculture Project

At the just concluded international blended program “Interdisciplinary Collaboration – Solving Industry Challenges”, organized by Trier University of Applied Sciences (Germany), students from several European universities came together to work on real-world cases in cooperation with industry partners. One of this year’s initiatives, the FarmIT subproject, focused on the challenges faced by a small family-owned farm in Portugal and sought to design innovative solutions to support its daily operations.

Our student Mariem, a second-year student of the Business Analytics program at the Faculty of Economics, UMCS, represented Poland and UMCS in this initiative. She not only applied the fundamentals of business analysis but also contributed to the development of the web platform as part of the frontend team. The platform aims to help farmers organize and streamline their daily agricultural tasks, with a unique feature: an AI-powered farm assistant that can answer questions about farming practices or provide insights specific to the farm itself.

The results of the FarmIT project were presented during a five-day visit to Trier, the oldest city in Germany, which hosted the final stage of the blended program. In addition to her technical work, Mariem also played a key role in pitching the project solution, showcasing her ability to combine analytical expertise with practical implementation and communication skills.

This project was carried out under the scientific supervision of Prof. Anna Tatarczak, ensuring that the students’ work is guided by academic expertise and aligned with the university’s research goals.
